Dr. Mario Perez is head of the University Advancement division at Sonoma State University. As Vice President, he plays a crucial role as a member of President Ming Tung “Mike” Lee's leadership team. Dr. Perez is responsible for developing long-term strategies for the university's philanthropic and alumni engagement efforts, as well as providing guidance on strategies to engage key stakeholders to make a positive impact on Sonoma State.

With over three decades of experience in both the corporate and academic sectors, Dr. Perez has a proven track record of transforming institutions and creating lasting legacies. He brings to his position a wealth of leadership experience in philanthropy, community engagement, board development, public relations, marketing and government advocacy.

Prior to joining Sonoma State, he served as the Associate Vice President at Cal State LA, where he led the development team and played a key role in initiating their first comprehensive campaign, "We Are LA." Dr. Perez is proud to have worked with donors to create transformational change and enduring legacies at the institutions where he has worked.

Before working in higher education, Dr. Perez gained experience in public and media relations at Hill and Knowlton, Inc. and the Oakland Raiders. A first-generation college student, his educational background, combined with his expertise in public relations and organizational leadership, reflects his deep commitment to serving students. With a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership and Management, Dr. Perez is a visionary leader dedicated to making a meaningful contribution to Sonoma State University.
